PT5521 Week 2

Welcome to “Week 2” of Introduction to Theological Research and Writing! The lecture and reading for Week 2 will introduce the topics of reading, notes, organization of research, and definitions.

This week’s assignments:

1. Watch the lecture for week 2. Please do not make copies of lecture recordings. You can view them within the course as many times as needed.
2. Read Turabian pp. 1-24.
3. Read Vyhmeister chaps. 10, 15.
4. Write and submit one reflection paragraph on Kapic and one reflection paragraph on Pazmiño. See the suggested outline under the “Materials” tab. Please download a copy of this document and do not update it in the LMS directly.
5. If you have not done so already, begin work on the ITRW Worksheet. Please download a copy of this document from week 1 and do not update it in the LMS directly. If you update it directly in the LMS, every other student will be able to see your answers, so download the worksheet before you begin entering your answers. 

You should write and submit via email two reflection paragraphs that are about 5 sentences each. Use headings in bold font for each paragraph. According to the Turabian style guide, you need two blank lines before a heading (except at the top of a page) and one blank line after it. Please submit these paragraphs as a Word document with Times New Roman, 12-point font and double-space your work.

Also, the ITRW Worksheet is due next week. You will need two sources for this assignment: (1) the 9^th edition of Turabian’s A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations and (2) the BTS Form and Style Guide, which may be found on the BTS Research and Writing Center website at https://btswritingcenter.net. Under “Style Guides,” click on “BTS Form and Style Guide (PDF).”

If you have not done so already, review the list of research topics in the syllabus and email your professor the research topic of your choice. Also, please be sure to email the signed student agreement at the end of the syllabus.

Again, one final hint to help you start well. A lot of reading is required in this course, as noted on your syllabus. Please feel free to read ahead during these early weeks of the course, as the latter part will be very busy with larger writing assignments.
