PT5521 Week 10

Welcome to “Week 10” of Introduction to Theological Research and Writing! The lecture for Week 10 will consist of a review of the research process, since we have taken a few weeks away from this topic to consider exegesis. We will also introduce the contents page and the review of literature.

This week’s assignments:

  1. Watch the lecture for week 10.
  2. Submit a statement of the percentage of reading completed.

This week, your statement of the percentage of the required reading that you completed will be averaged with your grades from the reflection paragraphs that you wrote at the beginning of the class to determine your final reading grade.

Some things to remember about the new items in your research paper:

First, on the contents page

  1. The title is “Contents” and not “Table of Contents.”
  2. The headings much match the headings in your paper exactly.
  3. The dots between the headings and page numbers are called “dot leaders.” These are not periods, which will not align correctly. If you have any trouble figuring out how to add dot leaders, omit them until you finish the research paper. If you have time after you finish your paper, then you can work again on adding them.
  4. The page number of the Contents page is a lower-case, Roman numeral ii.

Second, the review of literature should account for only about three pages of your final research paper. Even though it is similar to your survey paper, that paper was written on your broad topic. Now you are considering a narrowed focus, so your survey of literature should be adjusted accordingly. Therefore, please do not copy your survey paper directly into the review of literature for your final paper.

Third, footnotes are required for any information that comes from another source. Therefore, in this type of paper, many footnotes are expected. Format footnotes and bibliography entries according to Turabian requirements with at least 12 sources in the bibliography, and no more than one source may be more than 50 years old. Student-conducted surveys and interviews are not allowed.

Please email, if you have questions.

Best wishes,
